This special shoe drive was created in memory of Miles Ludvik (kindergartener Owen Ludvik’s younger brother), who died in 2014 due to complications with congenital heart defects. February is American Heart Month and February 7-14 is Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Week. Shoes for Miles aims to raise awareness of CHDs, which affect nearly 1 in 100 children, while making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in our community.
The PTO is contributing to this year’s campaign by collecting NEW kids’ shoes (sizes for toddlers to teens) for Nebraska’s Foster Care Closet. Shoes needed most are practical, every day shoes, including sneakers and cold-weather boots. We are not collecting used shoes. Please bring new shoes to the school office by Monday, Feb. 19 and let them know they are for the PTO’s Shoes for Miles drive.
