Principal's Monthly Letter to Parents

March 19th, 2008

Dear Zeman Families and Friends,

Spring break is early this year! School will not be in session from March 21st through March 30th. This has been a productive and busy year for our students. When students return to school there will be just nine short weeks left in the of school year.

Fourth quarter will be a time for end of the year assessment. The third and fifth grade students will be administered the Metropolitan Achievement tests and the district reading and math tests. It will be important that your child be in school during this time. Please help your child remember to get a good night’s rest and to eat breakfast to insure that he/she does his/her best on the tests. The testing period is as follows:

Metropolitan Achievement Test (MAT) April 7-18

CRTs Reading and Vocabulary May 5-21

CRTs Math May 12-23

The results of the MAT test will be returned to school by late May and the CRT scores will be returned during the summer.

During fourth quarter staff will begin to assign students to classrooms for the next school year. When staff group students they consider several different factors in order to provide balance to the classroom. As a parent you may wish to give input into your student’s placement. You are welcomed to describe the classroom that best fits your student’s personality and learning needs. Ultimately staff will decide the placement of your child. Any input should be shared by May 1st.

If your child will not be returning to Zeman for the 2008-09 school year, please call the Zeman office at 436-1169. This will help us in planning for the new school year.

Some students have been bringing electronic devices like MP3 players, CD players, and I-Pods to school. These items are considered nuisance items at school because they can interfere with learning. They will be brought to the office if students have them at school and will be returned when parents come to retrieve them. Staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen electronic devices.
